Arsenal fans should be concerned with the latest reports suggesting the Gunners will make a move for Liverpool’s Alberto Moreno.

With Nacho Monreal injured and question marks remaining over the fitness over Sead Kolasinac, it is believed Unai Emery wants another left-back in January. The Spaniard worked with Moreno during his time at Sevilla and reportedly wants to reunite with him at the Emirates Stadium. With less than a year remaining on his contract, Liverpool are resigned to losing him on a free and could sell him for cheap in the New Year.

While signing Moreno on a free wouldn’t be wrong from a business perspective, the left-back is simply not good enough for the Gunners. The Spaniard has gained a reputation following some awful defensive displays for Liverpool and has proven to be a liability time and time again. Instead, Arsenal should make a move for Hertha Berlin star – Marvin Plattenhardt.

Valued at £13.5m by Transfermarkt, the 26-year-old has been a key player for the Bundesliga outfit since joining the club from Nuremberg in 2014. After recovering from injury problems, Plattenhardt made 33 appearances in the Bundesliga last year, providing seven assists for his team-mates. He has featured in five league games so far this season.

The Germany international is a constant menace on the left flank but doesn’t neglect his defensive duties. He loves to bomb forward and whip in dangerous crosses, averaging 2.2 key passes and two crosses per game in the Bundesliga this season (WhoScored). Plattenhardt is also a set-piece specialist who would give Emery’s side another advantage in the title race.

The defender is perfectly suited to the Premier League and approaching the prime of his career – Arsenal would be wise to ditch their plans to sign Moreno and lure the German to North London.
