Massive blow in Arsenal pursuit of World Cup winner

Gunners fans here in the bar at the Football Transfer Tavern are having a few more pints that usual to heal the wounds of some bad news that reached the bar staff this morning.

Reports from Germany (via Goal.com) are claiming that any hopes that Arsenal had of bringing Wolfsburg’s Julian Draxler to North London this summer have been all but dashed.

Speaking to Sport 1, the club’s sporting director, Klaus Allofs, said: “The situation with Draxler is 100 per cent certain that he will be staying at Wolfsburg.”

He added, affirmatively: “There is no discussing that.”

The reports will be a massive blow to Gunners fans after claims suggested that Arsene Wenger was prepared to spend big on the attacking midfielder, with Wolsburg reportedly valuing their star at £55m.

The 22-year-old bagged 9 goals in 35 appearances for the German side last season, chipping in with 8 assists along the way.

Le Prof will now have to turn his interests elsewhere in order to bolster his attacking options as the Emirates side look to improve on last seasons 2nd place finish.

Gunners fans, how big of a blow are the comments made by Allofs? Could Wenger still prise Draxler away with a huge offer? Let us know below…
