While not overly convincing, Unai Emery’s refreshed Arsenal side extended their winning streak to a stunning 11 games in a row by beating Sporting Lisbon in the Portuguese capital last night.
Indeed, while the Gunners struggled to dominate or create all that much in the way of clear-cut chances, a Danny Welbeck goal with around 15 minutes to play last night saw Arsenal move into within touching distance of the Europa League knockout stages after the England international pounced on a Sebastian Coates mistake to fire home.
However, such was the nature of the game, it wasn’t the attacking players that stood out to those online last night.
Summer signing Matteo Guendouzi certainly looked the part in Lisbon last night, anchoring the engine room well and impressing social media users with his expansive range of passing. The young Frenchman arrived at the Emirates Stadium with relatively little fanfare, though is clearly going from strength to strength right now.
With that in mind, here’s a look at how Arsenal fans reacted to his performance last night.
Guendouzi, the 6ft Pirlo

Guendouzi is really a special talent. He always seems to have space and his passing is fantastic #afc

Torreira and Guendouzi pivot = instant control of the midfield and therefore the game

Every time guendouzi plays, he makes the decision to keep playing granit Xhaka even more baffling

The quick passing from Guendouzi-Torreira-Mkhitaryan has improved us a lot this half. Bellerin would've got an assist by now.

Okay make Guendouzi captain now. He'll make mistakes but his peak can be Pirlo. You live with it
