Arsenal were fortunate to snatch a point against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Emirates.

The Gunners fell behind in the 13th minute when Ivan Cavaleiro raced through and finished past Bernd Leno. Unai Emery’s men were unable to find an equaliser until four minutes from time when Henrikh Mkhitaryan found the back of the net. Arsenal join Cardiff as the only teams in the Premier League to not be leading at half-time this season.

Emery will be eager to improve on their slow starts if they are to catch both Manchester City and Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table. The Spaniard will be without Danny Welbeck for the foreseeable future following a severe ankle injury and could use the January transfer window to improve his attacking options.

One man who should be on his shortlist is Celta Vigo superstar – Maximiliano Gomez. Valued at £27m by Transfermarkt, the Uruguayan burst on the scene last season following a stunning debut season in La Liga. The 22-year-old flourished alongside Iago Aspas and ended the campaign with 19 goals and five assists highlighting the threat he poses in the attack.

Gomez has already shown he is not a one-season wonder with six goals and four assists in just nine La Liga starts so far this season. A physical forward, the youngster would have no issues adapting to the rigours of the Premier League if Arsenal attempted to lure him to the Emirates. A massive threat in the air, Gomez is the perfect target man and would slot seamlessly into Emery’s 4-2-3-1 system at the Emirates.

With players like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mesut Ozil behind him, Gomez would be scoring even more than his current. At 22-years-old, he is still improving and developing – his best years are ahead of him. Securing his signature before one of their rivals could prove to be a masterstroke.
