Mixed news for Arsenal fans on the transfer front ahead of next season

Though Arsenal missed out on Champions League qualification, the supporters propping up the bar here in the Transfer Tavern have been given reasons to be optimistic this summer.

Indeed, the signings of both Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac have excited our north London locals ahead of next season, who hope Arsene Wenger can mount a genuine title tilt at last, in the absence of a European adventure.

Still, recent comments from BBC journalist David Ornstein have been met with a mixed response. He claims the club’s reported pursuit of AS Monaco star Thomas Lemar has been dealt a blow, with the Ligue 1 champions understood to be desperate to keep the Frenchman.

Touted as a big name attacking target at the Emirates, the 21-year-old would have been the icing on the cake for our resident Gunners, though other exits from the Stade Louis II look to have strengthened the French club’s hands.

However, Ornstein has also suggested Arsenal STILL intend to keep Alexis Sanchez, despite his recent comments about wanting to play Champions League football next term.

As you can imagine, the notion of keeping the Chilean has softened the Lemar-shaped blow amongst our local Arsenal fans.
