The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern aren’t quite sure what to make of yesterday’s events.
Indeed, while Alexis Sanchez will be a Gunners player for another few months at least, the fact he’s able to talk to other clubs in January for free has left some of our north London locals doubting that it’s a good thing he stayed.
Especially if reports from ESPN are to be believed.
They claim the Chilean is ‘devastated’ about the fact a deadline day move to Manchester City broke down after Arsenal failed to land France star Thomas Lemar.
Having worked with Pep Guardiola at Barcelona, the City boss is understood to be likely to return for him when he becomes a free agent this summer, while there is also a reported possibility of a move in the New Year.
So, it could prove to be a bit of a nightmare for Arsenal, keeping a player who doesn’t want to be there, only to lose him for free in less than a year’s time.
These are nervous times for our resident Arsenal fans, who are worried the club is becoming a poisonous atmosphere.
What’s the point in having a player who is reportedly ‘devastated’ about the fact he’s still at the club?
With there seemingly no chance of Sanchez signing a contract extension, this could get very awkward for Arsenal.
