The divide between Arsenal fans at the Emirates over Arsene Wenger is huge, and can be keenly felt in The Transfer Tavern, with debates raging long into the night over a cold pint of London Pride over whether the long-serving Frenchman should still be in the role or not.
The Wenger Out crowd is in full voice already this season, with the Gunners able to boast of just seven points from their opening give games, but victory over West Brom this evening could see the north Londoners climb up to seventh place.
Wenger’s policies both on and off the pitch have been up for debate for some time now, and news reaching The Tavern today from quotes sourced in The Evening Standard that former Anderlecht midfielder Youri Tielemans turned down a switch to the Emirates this summer in favour of Monaco has enraged fans at the bar.
“I knew not much was going to change with Arsenal’s squad,” he said.
“Their management wanted to keep the same group of players together in order to finish high in the Premier League.”
The 20-year-old Belgian is one of the hottest prospects in European football, and his £22 million switch to the principality side has to be considered a real steal considering his current ability and potential.
Already a full international, Tielemans claimed that although he didn’t say no to the Gunners, he made it clear that he preferred a switch to the Ligue 1 champions.
The news will come as a blow to Arsenal fans, especially considering the fact that Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are more than likely to depart the club next summer, if not earlier.
