Arsenal have secured three consecutive Premier League victories to keep pace with the league leaders after five games.

The Gunners have responded fantastically to losing their opening two fixtures in the new campaign with wins over West Ham and Cardiff. After an uneventful first-half against Newcastle in their latest game, Granit Xhaka netted his first goal of the season before Mesut Ozil doubled their advantage. A late goal from Ciaran Clark denied Emery his first clean sheet of the season.

Despite scoring against the Magpies, Xhaka continues to be a polarising figure in North London. Much was expected of the Swiss international following his huge move from Borussia Monchengladbach but thus far, he has failed to live up to expectations. Emery should definitely be looking to upgrade in the January transfer window.

One man he could target is Lyon enforcer – Tanguy Ndombele. Valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt, the youngster has emerged as one of the brightest prospects emerging out of France. He spent last season on loan at Lyon from Amiens before the transfer was made permanent this summer for just £8m. Ndombele was rewarded with a new five-year contract in September following an exceptional debut season at the club.

The Frenchman is adept in the number six role meaning he would slot seamlessly into Emery’s favoured 4-2-3-1 approach at the Emirates. Ndombele would also provide some much-needed protection to the Arsenal defence, averaging 2.2 tackles per game for Lyon last season. The youngster is also an exceptional passer of the ball, completing 89% of his balls in the engine room last season (WhoScored).

At just 21-years-old, Ndombele is still getting better and better, and Arsenal should snap him up whatever the price before one of their rivals beat them to the punch.
