New deal for Emile Smith-Rowe has given Arsenal fans a reason to smile

This week has been pretty good for young Emile Smith-Rowe. The 18-year-old winger scored a superb goal against Atletico Madrid before registering an assist against PSG just days later and now he’s capped off the week with a brand new Arsenal deal. Fans can read about the deal on the Arsenal website.

Smith-Rowe promises to have a big future at The Emirates but at such a young age it’s imperative that Unai Emery uses him sparingly and doesn’t burn him out too early. There are a lot of young prospects at Arsenal and Smith-Rowe won’t be at the top of the list for youngsters that are due a first-team chance. New signing Metto Guendouzi, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Reiss Nelson will also be in contention for a spot in the starting eleven.
For now, another season in the youth set-up and then maybe a loan to a Championship club will be right for the exciting youngster. It’s too early in his career to throw him in at the deep end and it could cause more harm than good for his future if he was to be put under the pressure of being a starter at his age. Emery will know this though and will no doubt use him carefully to maximise his development.

It seems clear for all to see that Emery means business by offering Smith-Rowe a new long-term deal.
