Arsenal’s winning streak came to an end at the weekend with Crystal Palace snatching a late draw at Selhurst Park.

The Eagles took the lead through Luka Milivojevic, and it took until the second half for the Gunners to find an equaliser with Granit Xhaka levelling the scoreline. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang seemingly won the game for Unai Emery before Wilfried Zaha was adjudged to have been fouled in the box and Milivojevic converted the spot kick. Arsenal now face their toughest test since the start of the season with a visit from Liverpool next up.

Emery is in the midst of a defensive crisis with Hector Bellerin facing a race to be fit for the important clash. The Spaniard joins Laurent Koscielny on the sidelines with Nacho Monreal and Saed Kolasinac also unfit. Emery could be forced to play Xhaka at left-back against Jurgen Klopp’s men due to the lack of left-sided defenders at his disposal.

This issue must be addressed in January by signing Ajax defender – Nicolas Tagliafico. Valued at £14.4m by Transfermarkt, the Argentine has developed into a key player for the Dutch side since joining from Independiente back in January. He made 15 Eredivisie appearances last year to earn a starting role for Argentina at the 2018 World Cup.

The 26-year-old is lightning quick meaning he would have no issues getting up and down the left flank at the Emirates. Tagliafico is also a brilliant defender, strong in the tackle and reads the game expertly – he has averaged 2.2 tackles and 2.4 interceptions per game this season. The Argentine loves to contribute to the attack, averaging 1.4 crosses per game, which could mean even more goals for a poacher like Aubameyang (WhoScored).

Emery would find the perfect long-term replacement for Monreal in this flying full-back.
