Our landlord’s had to separate two groups of Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern, holding differing opinions on news of Arsene Wenger potentially signing a new contract.
Le Prof’s current deal is due to expire in the summer and amid a disappointing 2016/17 campaign that has now been reduced to simply hopes of winning the FA Cup, there is increasing pressure on him to step down.
But according to The Times, Arsenal have already offered Wenger a two-year contract which he can sign at any time, potentially taking his tenure in north London to a staggering 23 years.
And it’s further added that Arsenal’s players are ‘convinced’ the Frenchman will sign a new deal at the Emirates Stadium – although Wenger has stated he won’t make a decision until March or April, when it will become much clearer whether his side have made any real progress this season.
Gunners patrons in the Transfer Tavern are completely divided on the news, and that’s something The Times also highlight – describing Arsenal’s fan base ‘increasingly split‘.
Wenger received a hostile reaction from away fans at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea claimed a 3-1 victory over Arsenal earlier this month, but he was greeted warmly in the following fixture against Watford.
