Opinion: £40.5m-rated Old Trafford flop would be an excellent signing for Arsenal

Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are buzzing with all the new faces arriving at the Emirates this summer.

Unai Emery replaced Arsene Wenger at the end of the season and has wasted no time in revamping the Arsenal squad. The Spaniard landed Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus on a free transfer as well as securing both Sokratis and Bernd Leno from Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen respectively. Sampdoria midfielder, Lucas Torreira, is also expected to sign in the coming days.

While their new additions undoubtedly strengthen their squad, they lack a marquee signing that will put them into title contention. Sokratis and Leno will improve their defence but Torreira remains a risk given his small frame. The Gunners need to add an exciting attacker to light up the Emirates.

The ideal signing could be Lyon forward – Memphis Depay. His exceptional performances in France has seen his market value skyrocket to £40.5m according to Transfermarkt. Depay netted an incredible 23 goals and registered 16 assists in 51 appearances during all competitions and would be an excellent addition to the Arsenal squad.

He is no stranger to the Premier League after spending two years with Manchester United. Though his time at Old Trafford did not go to plan, Depay deserves a second chance to prove himself in England. The Dutchman can play on either wing and has bags of pace as well as trickery to give defenders nightmares.

United’s loss can be Arsenal’s gain this summer.
