Turkey’s Super Lig may not be one of Europe’s most glamorous divisions, but that has not stopped the Mirror from claiming that Fenerbahce are eyeing an ambitious move to lure Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil to Istanbul.
Gunners supporters here in the Transfer Tavern are growing resigned to the strong possibility both the German playmaker and Alexis Sanchez will depart the Emirates Stadium this summer as their contract sagas rumble on, so speculation is seen as the norm.
Ozil has been offered £280,000-per-week to stay in north London, yet he’s not committed his future to the club and with his deal set to enter it’s final 12 months when the season ends, there’s a possibility he could run his contract down – which would be bad news for Arsenal.
And Fenerbahce have reportedly been alerted by this, with an ambitious move for the 28-year-old on their agenda.
With Robin van Persie, a former Arsenal player, set to leave the club this summer, money will be freed up for a marquee signing and the club believe Ozil’s ties to Turkey may sway him.
Indeed, the World Cup-winner’s parents hail from the nation, while he’s also been dating Miss Turkey, Amine Gulsa.
Mesut Ozil is more important to Arsenal than Alexis Sanchez?
