Pardew Suddenly Favourite To Land Arsenal & Spurs Target …Eh?

Following the departure of Andy Carroll to Liverpool (sorry….hadn’t you heard!) Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has been scouting several replacements over the last few weeks, in a bid to bolster his attacking options beyond Shefti Kuqi.

Newcastle scouts have been sighted at several grounds, one of which being Portman Road where teenage striker Conor Wickham has been attracting some serious attention from the Magpies. The 17-year old is fast becoming one of the stars of the Championship, and Pardew is supposedly very keen to bring the Hereford born attacker to St. James’ Park.

At the moment, we’ve yet to pass ‘speculation stage’ on this, but already it looks as if the Toon may have some difficulty in acquiring Wickham. The striker has already been targeted by several other Premiership clubs, including Arsenal and Tottenham and the lure of potential Champions League matches may be too much to compete with for Ashley and Co.

The England Under-21 international is just one of many players Newcastle have been linked with in recent days. On this very website, we heard that the legendary Ronaldo was planning a comeback on the Tyne! Naturally, should such a deal happen, the media and other fans would treat it as another Newcastle United publicity stunt, and pictures of deliriously happy representatives of the Geordie Nation would be wheeled out to give their views on such a signing.

To be honest, I think I’d be happier with Wickham. Although still very much a Championship player, with the right development he could become a hugely influential player for the Magpies. He’s young too. Not approaching pension age like Kuqi or Ronaldo.

If Ashley could pull off something of a coup and acquire Conor’s services, then it would restore some (some mind you…let’s not go crazy just yet…) credibility. As a Newcastle fan though, I’m not supposed to say that am I? I’m supposed to get excited over Ronaldo being linked with us.

Well, whoopee.
