Reports emerged last week that Aaron Ramsey could be set to leave Arsenal on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract.

The Welshman has become a key player for the Gunners since joining from Cardiff City and was expected to be a prominent figure in Unai Emery’s new look team. Despite initially being willing to offer him a new deal, reports suggest Arsenal have now pulled the plug on contract negotiations. The Wales international is now expected to leave the club in January or next summer on a free transfer.

Ramsey was a shining light during Arsene Wenger’s final season in charge at the Emirates, and his loss will definitely be a blow to their fans. The 27-year-old is approaching the peak of his career and still has plenty to offer at the top level. It will be even worse if he decides to sign for one of Arsenal’s Premier League rivals.

To put Ramsey in the past, Arsenal would be wise to make a move for Napoli maestro – Piotr Zielinski. Valued at £28.8m by Transfermarkt, the Poland international was once courted by Liverpool but instead decided to join Napoli back in 2016. He has since gone from strength-to-strength, developing into a crucial player for his side.

The 24-year-old would slot seamlessly into Emery’s 4-2-3-1 passing system, completing 91% of his passes in the Serie A so far this season (WhoScored). Zielinski also possesses a fantastic work-rate making him the ideal partner for Lucas Torreira in the Arsenal engine room. More importantly, the Pole is a superb dribbler who loves to transition defence to attack which the Gunners have sorely lacked in recent years.

Landing Zielinski would quickly help Arsenal fans forget all about Ramsey.
