Playmaker hints at botched Wenger attempt to secure Arsenal deal

Despite enjoying a resounding victory over Swansea City last weekend, the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern continue to lament life in north London as another failed title tilt ruins their campaign.

The Gunners trail league leaders Chelsea by eight points, despite thumping their growing ever bitter rivals 3-0 earlier this season, so the Emirates faithful propping up the bar need some cheering up to say the least.

Well, quotes from a Barcelona midfielder posted on Granada’s official website will do little on that front. Speaking to the site, Sergi Samper has revealed he SNUBBED the chance to enter discussions with Gunners chief Arsene Wenger.

The Spaniard was linked with a move to the Premier Leauge giants after failing to break the first-team at the Camp Nou, though has now hinted he rejected Le Prof’s overtures to move to El Graná.

“I did not want to listen to Wenger,” he said.

“I told him clearly that I wanted to stay, I wanted to succeed at Barcelona, and what would make me happy was succeeding at Barcelona in the future. I feel important in the [Granada] team. I am enjoying where I am and I hope that we can change the situation.”

Though a hugely talented player, the 21-year-old failed to break into the star-studded midfield available to the Blaugrana and clearly felt his development would be better served staying in La Liga.

Does this prove Wenger has lost his allure? Let us know below…
