Arsenal supporters have been pretty glum in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side comprehensively beaten 3-0 by Manchester City in the final of the Carabao Cup at Wembley on Sunday.
Arsene Wenger’s men got past Doncaster Rovers, Norwich City, West Ham, and Chelsea to reach the showpiece, only to produce a limp display to deservedly lose to Pep Guardiola’s side at the national stadium. Goals from Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany, and David Silva sealed a routine success for the Citizens, thus clinching a third League Cup crown in five years, at the same time making Wenger wait at least another year for his first title in the competition.
Subsequently, there have been many angry and disappointed Gunners fans in the Tavern in the last few days, and they are unlikely to be overly thrilled by a recent report from The Sun, which suggests that Jack Wilshere has dropped a huge bombshell regarding his future at the Emirates Stadium.
The 26-year-old came up through the ranks at the North London giants and has since gone on to make 187 appearances for the club, winning two FA Cup crowns and a Community Shield in his time with the Gunners.
Ultimately though, injuries have severely dented his progression in the last few years, to the point that he went on loan to Bournemouth last term to build up his fitness, yet 27 first team appearances this season suggests that he is beginning to rediscover that form.
However, his contract expires at Arsenal in the summer and as of yet no extension has been agreed, and recent reports suggest that Wilshere has dropped a huge bombshell by insisting that he won’t agree to the current terms being offered by the club, thus increasing the possibility of a summer departure.
Manager Wenger wants him to stay, but it appears that the two parties remain a long way away from an agreement.
Landlord’s verdict: Jack Wilshere’s career to date has been decimated by injuries, to the point that the 26-year-old has only made 187 appearances for Arsenal since his debut back in 2008.
And his future at the club appears to be in doubt as well given his contract is up at the end of the season, and while manager Arsene Wenger seems confident of a positive resolution, the midfielder has reportedly dropped a huge bombshell as he is reportedly unwilling to agree to the current terms.
And this is surely going to come as a big blow to Wenger and some of our resident Gunners fans, who have seen first-hand the quality Wilshere possesses when fully fit, but it seems that the England international may well quit the club in the summer unless things change.
