The fans of Wolves at the Football Transfer Tavern will be delighted after securing their promotion back to the Premier League last weekend after Fulham’s draw with Brentford.
The Midlands outfit will be returning to the Premier League next season for the first time since being relegated in 2011/2012 under the stewardship of Mick McCarthy. An outstanding campaign this year under former Porto manager Nuno Espirito Santo has led to Wolves clinching promotion back to England’s top flight most likely as Champions.
It has emerged that to mark their return to the Premier League that Wolves are looking to bring Arsenal playmaker Jack Wilshere to Molineux as they look to build a squad capable of competing in the top flight. The Daily Mail have reported that Santo’s side are planning an audacious move for the 26-year-old as his contract situation with Arsenal grows increasingly more unlikely with the season drawing to a close.
Wilshere has featured 35 times for the Gunners this campaign his most appearances since the 2013/2014 season as he looks to of put his injury problems behind him. He has impressed in the centre of midfield and despite pushing for a call-up to the England squad for the World Cup, but a new deal now seems further away than ever.
As it stands Arsenal offered the product of their youth academy a pay-cut on his current deal, something the midfielder was unwilling to do and as it stands there are no new plans for the Emirates hierarchy to offer him a new deal, paving the way for Wilshere to leave for a free this summer.
The Wolves fans in the Tavern will be pleased to be linked with a player of Wilshere’s quality. If they can complete the signing of him and keep hold of Ruben Neves they could have a strong central midfield for the new season. However, there will be slight concerns over Wilshere’s fitness but a gamble that Wolves should be willing to take.
