Though Arsenal’s work to strengthen the squad has largely stalled since the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette, you won’t find too many Gunners in the Transfer Tavern complaining an awful lot.
With a big name striker finally on board, there’s a fresh optimism amongst our north London locals in regards to the Emirates giants’ title aspirations next term. Indeed, that’s exactly why comments from a notable journalist on Twitter have sparked such excitement.
Tancredi Palmeri has taken to Twitter to claim Arsenal are in talks with Sporting Lisbon over a potential move for Portugal international William Carvalho. The tough-tackling midfielder was touted as a Gunners target a few years ago, though a move never truly materialised.

While the engine room is a crowded area of the squad under Arsene Wenger, Carvalho certainly could provide something different. A no-nonsense defensive midfielder, perhaps the 25-year-old could finally bring some bite to north London, for a side who have oh so often been accused of lacking in that department.
Now, talks are said to be underway and the Arsenal fans in the Tavern would be delighted to see their summer spending move towards the bringing in of a top class defensive midfielder.
