Arsenal decided against renewing the contract of Aaron Ramsey, who is now set to join one of Europe’s biggest clubs in the summer, according to the Guardian.

Despite being the longest-serving player at the club, the Gunners opted to not meet the Welshman’s demands over a new deal. Ramsey is now expected to depart the club when his contract expires in the summer, with a number of European giants circling like sharks. Bayern Munich and Paris St German are both reportedly keen to lure him from the Emirates, though Juventus have recently emerged as favourites for his signature.

The Old Lady have a reputation for signing players on free transfers with Andrea Pirlo, Paul Pogba and Emre Can just some of the names to join the Italian champions for nothing in recent years. As his replacement, Arsenal should ask for Juventus midfielder, Sami Khedira.

Valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, the Germany international also moved to the Serie A on a free transfer after his contract at Real Madrid expired. Khedira instantly became a key player in Turin, lifting three Serie A titles and three Italian cups during his time in Italy. Now approaching the end of his career, his role in the first-team has been reduced, making just six appearances in the Serie A with injuries plaguing his season so far.

Khedira is one of the most well-rounded midfielders in world football, effortlessly combining defence and attack. The 31-year-old is hugely experienced and would add a much-needed layer of protection to Arsenal’s leaky defence. His vast knowledge could also be of great value to the Arsenal youngsters hoping to break into the starting eleven.

Even during his final playing years, Khedira could prove to be an important player for the Gunners.
