North London and Manchester are ready to go head to head in a four-way battle to sign Notts County goalkeeping prodigy Fabian Speiss.
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United, Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham have all sent scouts to watch 18-year-old Speiss, who is yet to appear in the County first-team.
Notts County’s head of youth development Mick Leonard raved about the youngster.
He told the Nottingham Evening Post: “He is as good as any young goalkeeper I have seen.
“Man United have been looking at him for a long time. There were also scouts from Man City and Tottenham at our game against Doncaster last week and Arsenal watched him while he was on loan at Lewes.
“He’s got everything a modern goalkeeper needs. He’s got a lot of ability and a great attitude. He is very mature and is physically big so he can command his area. He’s brave and he kicks the ball well. I would love to see him play for our first team.”
The 18-year-old has been likened to England number one Joe Hart, due to his impressive stature and confidence, despite being so young.
If he was to move to one of the the Premier League big boys, I would imagine Speiss would be loaned back to County for a season first, on the premise that he will gain first-team experience.
Arsenal, United and City all have very good young goalkeepers already, so Spurs could jump to the front of the queue if they were to offer the youngster first-team football immediately.
Brad Friedel will be 41 at the end of the season and Tottenham scouts have probably watched numerous young goalkeepers over the past few months.
Whether or not Speiss is a fan of any of the aforementioned clubs could also be a big factor in his decision., but whatever happens it seems that Fabian Speiss is destined for big things and is definitely a name you should watch out for.
