Spurs boss Pochettino eyeing shock transfer deal to bridge seven-year divide

The Transfer Tavern’s Arsenal punters are doubting our landlord, who claims Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Gunners defender Calum Chambers.

The 22-year-old has struggled to justify his price-tag since moving to the Emirates Stadium in summer 2014, going on to make just 36 appearances for the north London club.

But the England international has impressed on loan at Middlesbrough this season, performing well alongside Ben Gibson at the heart of a defence that has helped Boro concede the fewest goals of any team outside the Premier League’s top seven.

And The Daily Mail claim Mauricio Pochettino is now monitoring the defender’s future at Arsenal, having worked with him at Southampton – where Chambers earned his move to the Emirates Stadium after a string of impressive performances for the Saints’ first team.

Our landlord’s shared that information with the Tavern’s Arsenal punters, who aren’t exactly worried about Chambers leaving the club but nonetheless wouldn’t like to see him switch allegiances to their local rivals.

The last player to directly move from Arsenal to Tottenham was William Gallas in 2010 – seven years ago – and even that was by way of a free transfer. Convincing the Gunners to sell a player, even one who doesn’t appear to be part of Arsene Wenger’s long-term plans, won’t be an easy task for Spurs.
