Sunderland approach Arsenal over shock deal for Wenger outcast

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have been drowning their sorrows together over the club’s lack of a centre-forward have at last been handed some good news.

Well, relatively.

While the world waits with baited breath over what the Gunners do in terms of bringing in players, the Daily Mail claims that the North London giants could soon be selling one.

They suggest that Sunderland have been in contact over the notion of signing right-back Mathieu Debuchy, who spent the last half of the campaign on loan with French side Bordeaux.

A former Newcastle United defender, the 30-year old lost his place in Arsene Wenger’s side after dislocating his shoulder, an event that allowed Hector Bellerin to emerge as one of the most promising young defenders in Europe.

Options in the right-back berth are said to be the Black Cats’ priority this summer, with Leicester City title hero Danny Simpson strongly linked.

Should Debuchy be kept on as a squad option by Wenger? Let us know below…
