Surely Arsene Won’t Let A Potential £7M Asset Slip Away To Toon

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal and Newcastle are set to go head to head over Montpellier’s versatile French defender – Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.

The 22-year-old is the clubs captain and is valued at £7million by the current Ligue 1 leaders who recognise the players desire to play in the Premier League. Yanga-Mbiwa stated back in December,

‘People live for football in England, and that is what I want to experience’.

These indications alerted Newcastle manager Alan Pardew who had been receiving frequent scouting reports on the Frenchmen, but now Arsene Wenger is also weighing up a move for the defender to bolster his defensive options for the coming season.

Could Wenger lose out on another prospect like he has done previously? Surely Wenger will be hoping to get his transfer dealings done early this summer to avoid deadline day scrambles like last year, which at times seemed desperate. He will be livid to again miss out on targets like Yanga-Mbiwa to league rivals such as the resurgent Newcastle.

Alan Pardew has been ruthless in his transfer dealings to bring in the likes of Cabaye, Ba and Cisse to the Toon. Surely however Wenger will still be kicking himself at letting talents like Cristiano Ronaldo slip from his grasp due to his hesitance in the market and will be looking to rectify this.
