Arsenal fans here in the Tavern will be desperate for their side to challenge for a Champions League spot next season after missing out in the last campaign. But, Unai Emery will need to hold onto key players to stand any chance of challenging near the top.
Indeed, the Gunners have made a rather strong start to the transfer window as they continue to seek additions, with aims of challenging near the top under the impressive Unai Emery.
Although, signing a number of players may not be such a good thing as any of the current batch of players may decide to head for the exits. The Gunners can’t afford to wave goodbye to some of their key members as this could force them to take a step backwards and would put them in danger of missing out on a Champions League place.
With that in mind, surely Emery is fearful this Arsenal duo will leave the Emirates soon…
David Ospina has been one of the standout goalkeepers at the World Cup thus far and will no doubt take his fine recent form through into next season.
But, with Bernd Leno recently joining from German side Bayern Leverkusen and Petr Cech pledging his Arsenal future to fight for the No 1 jersey, the Colombian international may be forced to move away this summer.
Cech is coming towards the end of his career and will require a replacement very soon, so there’s no doubt that Emery will be fearful of losing a world-class ‘keeper like Ospina.
The Spanish full-back dropped off the pace last season and he was often left out in favour of youth under former boss Arsene Wenger. And, with the Gunners recently signing Stephan Lichtsteiner, Hector Bellerin may look for a move away as it’s likely that he’ll become a regular on the substitutes’ bench.
There’s no doubt that the 23-year-old is an extremely dangerous full-back that contributes both in defensive areas and in the final third for the Gunners, but losing him this summer could cause for major concern as it will be hard to find a suitable replacement for such a promising player.
