Arsenal fans here in the Tavern are fearing that they might have to go without Champions League football once again, as the Gunners look to be losing ground in the top-four race.
Arsene Wenger has had a second successive disastrous season as manager of Arsenal Football Club, as Champions League football continues to evade the Emirates Stadium. Indeed, with 11 games still to be played in the remainder of the Premier League season, any injuries to one of their star men could have huge implications on their European aims. And, this is sadly what’s happened for the Gunners, as according to a report from Arsenal’s official website, Alexandre Lacazette is set to miss four to six weeks with a knee injury.
The Frenchman had an arthroscopy on his left knee in London on Tuesday morning, as the minor procedure was a success with him now set to undergo a period of rehabilitation. Although, it does come at a cost for Arsene Wenger’s side, as they’re set to spend the next four to six weeks without their prolific striker.
Indeed, as if our local residents hadn’t suffered enough heartbreak with proceedings so far this season, a setback for the Gunners’ top-scorer Lacazette has added insult to injury in a campaign that’s already nearing a disaster. A troubling development for Arsene Wenger more than anyone else, as spending even the next four weeks without his reliable striker could see bad results make for a possible Wenger departure.
This is a huge loss at completely the wrong time for the Gunners, as their main source of goals will prove a huge miss in terms of their European charge. Indeed, they’ll hope that he returns sooner rather than later with some important fixtures coming up for Arsenal. Although, having signed Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang in the January transfer window, they’ll hope the Gabon international can step up in his absence.
