Arsenal have been busy rebuilding their squad following Arsene Wenger’s departure.
Unai Emery was announced as the Frenchman’s successor and got straight to work revamping the squad Wenger left behind. The Spaniard signed Bernd Leno to be his new number one as well as adding Sokratis from Borussia Dortmund to strengthen his defence. Emery also landed Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria for £25m.
While their business so far has been smart, the Gunners need a signing to get the fans off their feet. Emery wants a new winger to compliment Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the Arsenal attack and had previously targeted Gelson Martins who recently signed for Atletico. Instead, the former PSG boss should bring Marseille forward, Florian Thauvin, back to England.
Valued at £45m by Transfermarkt, the Frenchman arrived in the Premier League back in 2015 when Newcastle spend £15m to sign him from Marseille. His time in England did not go to plan, and he was loaned back to France before completing a permanent transfer.
He quickly rediscovered his form and enjoyed a sensational season which earned him a place in France’s World Cup squad. Thauvin netted 26 goals and notched 18 assists in all competitions last year, highlighting the quality he was unable to show at St. James Park.
Under Steve McClaren, he was a failure – but under Emery, it could be a different story. Thauvin is an excellent dribbler with an eye for goal. His arrival would also have Aubameyang licking his lips as the 25-year-old averaged 2.2 key passes per game last season (WhoScored).
Arsenal need to give the Frenchman a second chance in the Premier League.
