The January transfer window is looking to be a real corker. Several big names have been linked with moves especially down at the Emirates. The news of more players leaving Arsenal will not be welcomed by the faithful Gooners who may just be wondering if there will ever be an end to the events that have recently plunged the club into darkness.
They will however be impressed with their side’s recent run of form that has seen them slowly creeping back up the table and re-establish some desperately needed confidence and pride.
The Gunners have needed their stars to step up to the fold and produce the displays that will drive the team up the table and that can certainly be said of Theo Walcott. His work ethic and enthusiasm has been pivotal in supporting the likes of Robin Van Persie up front, producing quite outstanding performances just at the right time. However these performances coupled with a few memorable appearances in Europe last season especially have attracted the attention of Barcelona.
According to reports, Pep Guardiola is interested in signing Walcott whose contract expires at the end of next season. Arsenal fans will find this news un-nerving especially as Barca seem to have a real knack of scuppering the Gunners season by unsettling their players at key moments. Wenger’s men are only just recovering from the late departure of Fabregas which everyone knows effected the team in a big way at the start of the season. Recent speculation of Walcott’s teammate Van Persie has yet to go away and the last thing they need right now is another high profile transfer saga.
Guardiola believes that Walcott’s pace and skill is similar to that of his current star Lionel Messi and would be keen to play the Arsenal winger as a full time striker. Messi notched up 55 goals last season in all competitions and shows no signs of stopping just yet. This could possibly tempt Walcott into considering his options but he will know that interest from Barcelona doesn’t come along very often. The same couldn’t be said for Wenger who continues to fend of interest from the Spanish giants trying to pinch all his best players all the time.
Walcott is a young and potentially influential player for either side and will know that if he decides to join Barca he will have to work incredibly hard to become part of Europe’s strongest teams. He also knows that he could just play a very important part in the rebuilding of an Arsenal team alongside the likes of exciting teenage sensation Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who has shown everyone why he deserves to be playing in the Premiership. The new Arsenal will be a force to be reckoned with if Wenger can prevent further departures and deliver some much needed trophies. The Arsenal fans will be fed up with nurturing young talented players and then helplessly watching them leave as all loyalty goes out the window in favour of money.
Walcott will have a big decision to make in January but either way the England youngster will unquestionably come of age this season. Arsenal fans will just be hoping he proves the media wrong on this occasion and stays. That would definitely be a turn up for the books and show Arsenal in a different light.
