Last year, Arsene Wenger spent big for the last time as Arsenal manager. Indeed, having watched Alexis Sanchez move to Manchester United in January 2018, Le Prof cast aside Olivier Giroud and spent roughly £58m on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
One of the best forwards in European football over the last few years, the Gabonese marksman has taken to life in the Premier League like a duck to water and, if he carries on his wonderfully devastating scoring rate, there’s no doubt the former Borussia Dortmund man can go down as one of the club’s best ever signings.
However, according to the results of our recent poll, the Arsenal faithful are ranking the return of legend Thierry Henry as their greatest bit of business in the January market. Five years after leaving the Emirates, the Frenchman returned to North London on loan and helped the club ensure they qualified for the Champions League, only adding to his legendary status at Arsenal.
Aubameyang will probably never reach the heights so often scaled by the great ‘Titi’ but, if he can achieve even half of what the World Cup-winner did, Wenger’s parting gift could be so celebrated for years to come.
