Arsenal fans will be pleased with their side’s business in the transfer window so far.
Unai Emery has been extremely busy in the transfer market following Arsene Wenger’s departure. Bernd Leno will replace Petr Cech between the sticks while Lucas Torreira adds some much-needed bite into the midfield. Emery also landed Sokratis from Borussia Dortmund to strengthen his defence and promising youngster Matteo Guendouzi from Lorient.
With less than ten days left in the transfer window, it’s unclear whether Emery will continue to spend. One area he should still look to improve is defence. Laurent Koscielny is set for six months out and is approaching the end of his career. Emery should return to the Bundesliga to find his replacement.
A great addition to the squad would be Schalke defender – Thilo Kehrer. Valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt, the German enjoyed an excellent breakthrough season in Germany. He made 28 appearances in the Bundesliga, scoring three goals, as Schalke ended the season in second place behind Bayern Munich.
The 21-year-old is primarily a centre-back but can also play at right or left-back. Kehrer is a modern-day centre-back, excellent on the ball but also strong in a tackle. He completed 83% of his passes in the Bundesliga last year and averaged an incredible 2.9 tackles per game – more than any other Arsenal player (WhoScored).
With just one year remaining on his contract, there is no better time to lure the youngster to the Premier League. He could follow in the footsteps of Leroy Sane and become a Premier League superstar.
