The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern tonight are excited with their new forward, but will be hoping Wenger isn’t done in the market just yet.
Arsene Wenger seems to have solved his striker woes with the signing of Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon.
The forward already scored on his unofficial debut for the Gunners in a pre-season game and that will surely be the start of a great career for Arsenal.
One problem Arsenal still have, however, is at the back.
In our landlord’s opinion, Laurent Koscielny is the only centre back at the club, competent enough to lead Arsenal to a Premier League title.
Perhaps there’s a case to be made for Shkodran Mustafi, though if last season was much to go by, he doesn’t have it in him at the highest of levels.
Meanwhile, Rob Holding is too young at the moment and whilst he could be something special one day, he’s not ready yet. Per Mertesacker is passed it now and given he has announced his retirement come the end of the season, he’s in no position to be in the Arsenal first team.
So, who should pair up with Koscielny at the back for the Gunners next season?
Enter, Kalidou Koulibaly.
Rated at £25.50m on Transfermarkt, the Senegalese centre back has become one of the best defenders in the Serie A since his arrival at Napoli three years ago and now has a host of clubs after his signature.
He’s big, he’s very physical which is something that could complement Koscielny well and he boasts some great presence in the air from set pieces.
Essentially, he could be their new Sol Campbell.
He shares all the same qualities as the former Arsenal centre back and if he can help plug the holes in Arsenal’s defence, then the Gunners could be on track to finally regain the Premier League title.
