Arsenal’s season hasn’t been excellent this term and the Gunners seem to be hovering around the same sort of area we see them every year; good but not quite good enough to actually win anything.
The past month for Arsene Wenger’s side has been particularly bleak, with defeats to Everton and Manchester City sending the Gunners tumbling down the Premier League standings, whilst they also needed an Olivier Giroud inspired resurgence to get a positive result against Bournemouth and Preston North End.
With Bayern Munich on the horizon, it’s concerning for Arsenal fans to hear that Arsene Wenger isn’t actively looking for January signings but the French boss surely wouldn’t pass up on the opportunity to land a top player, should they become available.
Well, it seems that the situation is set to occur as West Ham United boss Slaven Bilic has confirmed that Dimitri Payet wants to leave the east London side and has refused to feature for the Hammers, with the Frenchman set to miss this weekend’s crucial relegation scrap with Crystal Palace.
For those at the Emirates, this should really spark the Gunners into a frenzy as Dimitri Payet would be the perfect fit for a left-midfield role where Arsenal have struggled for consistency, as both Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alex Iwobi haven’t always impressed this season.
Signing Payet would be the ideal fix to this problem as he is a top-class talent, whilst the fact that he turns 30 in March means that it won’t hinder the development of Alex Iwobi too much and would instead reduce the pressure upon the Nigerian.
A front-three of Payet, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, with Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott also there to provide support when needed, would certainly give Arsenal one of the most varied attacking lines in the Premier League.
The fact Payet is able to play in the Champions League is also an added bonus and Arsenal should not be put-off by whatever fee West Ham want for his services.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
