Arsenal’s striking problems seem to have been solved this season with Alexis Sanchez the joint-top scorer in the Premier League, and Olivier Giroud returning to form but the Gunners do still lack a top-class central option.
Alexis can be that man but sticking him up-top means playing young Alex Iwobi on the left and the Nigerian doesn’t quite seem ready enough for regular challenges in the Premier League, whilst Giroud has lacked the consistency in recent seasons to excel as Arsenal’s leading man.
With the future of Alexis Sanchez also up in the air, Arsenal need to have a plan of action and their man could be Alvaro Morata – a player left unhappy at Real Madrid after returning to the Spanish capital last summer following two-years at Juventus.
The 24-year-old excelled during his two seasons in Italy, helping the Old Lady reach the Champions League final in 2015, and his scoring record for Real Madrid is also impressive – which shows he has the requirements Arsenal are looking for.
On top of that, a player of Morata’s build and style slots into Arsenal’s type of play easily.
Capable in the air and with his feet, the Spaniard can link-up with the Gunners’ other attacking outlets to craft a deadly relationship.
His fee may be expensive but a move to the Premier League seems likely and Arsenal shouldn’t pass-up that opportunity.
Like they have in the past with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, Wenger’s side can benefit from a top-side not handing enough chances to a top-class player.
