Arsenal have been boosted by the return of Mesut Ozil ahead of Saturday’s Premier League trip to London Stadium to tackle West Ham United.
And while manager Unai Emery has managed to cope quite well without Ozil’s presence in recent matches, the fact remains that the German is still an important part of the Arsenal squad and the manager needs to put his trust in him heading forward.
The relationship between Emery and Ozil has been in the spotlight for some time now with the midfielder injured and unavailable on a few occasions as the rest of the team develops around him.
But, having recovered from a knee injury, the 30-year-old is available for selection for Saturday’s encounter at the London Stadium.
The former Real Madrid man remains a key figure in Arsenal’s fight to finish the season with a bang and possibly qualify for the Champions League next season.
Not to mention he is the club’s highest earner ever, Ozil should be utilised for Emery to conclude his first campaign at the helm of the club in a positive fashion.
A tricky FA Cup encounter with Manchester United and the knockout stages of the Europa League await the Gunners and the importance of progression in these competitions is the perfect opportunity for Emery to let Ozil dictate play from the midfield.
Having captained the team on a couple of occasions already this season, Emery clearly feels Ozil is one of the leaders in the team but since the manager was forced into a back-three formation, due to injuries, Ozil has had to settle for a place on the bench.
The return of key defenders to the squad should see Emery play with a back-four again against the Hammers and it should therefore create a spot for Ozil to start.
Arsenal played some of their best attacking football this season in the matches where Ozil started and it should be of high importance to Emery to let that style of football continue towards the end of the season.
