Arsenal will be entering pre-season without Arsene Wenger at the helm for the first time since 1995.
Emery’s revolution has began at Arsenal with signings such as Bernd Leno, Stephan Lichsteiner and Sokratris Papasathopolous. These signings show some serious intent from Emery, but all the indications are he isn’t finished yet.
After years of stalling, making to progress under Frenchman Arsene Wenger, Emery has breathed a new lease of life into the Emirates side.
To return Arsenal to a top 4 side, perhaps even challenging for a title, Spaniard Emery certainly needs some major improvements in lots of areas. He has inherited a side with players past their peak, underperforming and demotivated.
With that in mind, here are two deals Unai Emery will surely be hoping to get over the line, before pre-season gets into full flow.
Barcelona simply hasn’t worked out for Andre Gomes, after the midfielder impressed so much at Valencia. Just leaving the Nou Camp would surely be a big weight off of the Portuguese, who missed out on his national side’s squad for this summer’s World Cup.
Capable of playing both as a box-to-box midfielder, and a deep-lying playmaker, Unai Emery will want the deal done before pre-season so he can truly get to grips with how to best utilise his talents.
The pacy Sampdoria defensive midfielder has been heavily linked with the Gunners. With 36 appearances in Serie A last season, and 4 goals, Torreira proved himself to be some talent.
Issues around his medical have meant he hasn’t signed yet for the Emirates outfit, but Emery will be hoping to get this deal done sooner rather than later for the Uruguayan.
