Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are over the moon with the latest news coming from the Emirates as their new manager was finally announced.
Unai Emery is the man who will replace Arsene Wenger in the dugout at the Emirates next year. He leaves PSG after winning four trophies during his time in France and previously lifted the Europa League three times in a row with Sevilla. He will employ a very different style to Wenger with the Gunners; our punters are eager to see how he fares in England.
He arrives at the club with a plethora of issues that need solving. Aaron Ramsey’s contract is still not signed and Laurent Koscielny is sidelined for six months. However, replacing Petr Cech and finding a new number one should be his priority. Cech is approaching the end of his career, and his performances have been declining in recent seasons, so the Gunners need a long-term replacement.
One man they should consider is Lyon goalkeeper – Anthony Lopes. The Portuguese is valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt and has established himself as one of the top goalkeepers in Ligue 1. He made 48 appearances in all competitions and kept 18 clean sheets. He has terrific reflexes which have led to some fantastic saves this season.
Lopes has made more saves per game (3.1) on average this season which is more than Cech (2.5) according to WhoScored. He is only 27-years-old so has plenty of time to improve his weaknesses and develop into a top Premier League keeper. Arsenal could be the perfect place for him.
