Everyday at the Football Transfer Tavern it seems that David Villa has a new destination in January with Arsenal and Chelsea heavily linked to the player and today the Daily Mail report that Arsenal are in pole position.
The striker known as ‘The Kid’ has been increasingly marginalised by Barcelona since his serious injury and arrival of Alexis Sanchez and it is claimed that the club are willing to let the player go for around £16 million.
Whilst a short-term loan deal would be preferred by Wenger, a permanent transfer is not out the question, yet such a high asking price for a player who is 31 years of age would seemingly test Wenger’s resolve. The Frenchman will have to act quickly however should he decide to bid for the player with Liverpool and Chelsea also interested.
Barcelona meanwhile are reluctant to sell a player who still nets the goals when he is selected but with Villa desperate to play and a conflict with Lionel Messi bubbling under the surface, the player is keen to leave the Catalan giants and would relish a move to the Premier League.
