With the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern still reeling from their loss at Stoke City over the course of the weekend, reports from the Sun really aren’t what they need.
Indeed, they claim Manchester City are lining up a big move for Emirates star Alexis Sanchez between now and the end of the summer transfer window. The Chilean has been linked with a move to the Etihad for what seems like an eternity now as he enters the final year of his contract in north London.
Though Arsene Wenger has constantly rebuffed speculation his star man could be sold to a Premier League rival, the report claims those behind the scenes at City are putting together a ‘meticulous’ plan to bring him there.
They would reportedly be prepared to pay the 28-year-old a stunning £400k-p/w and that potential contract would make him the highest paid-player in the Premier League by some distance.
Pep Guardiola is understood to be desperate to reunite with his former Barcelona star and is thought to be ready to make a £50m offer, with City’s Director of Football Txiki Begiristain, said to have been tasked with leaving no stone unturned in an attempts to land him.
As you can imagine, losing Sanchez now would be terrible for our resident Gooners.
Though losing Sanchez at this stage would be an almighty blow, perhaps the Gunners would be clever to sell a man out of contract in a year for big money, while moving themselves for Julian Draxler.
However, given Arsenal’s recent record in the market, it seems a bit too logical for them…
