As we here in the Transfer Tavern are sure you know already, Arsenal were absolutely spanked in the Champions League last night by a ruthless Bayern Munich side.
As you can well imagine, the Gunners propping up the bar have moved to drown their sorrows and then some pretty much ever since the final whistle. Clearly, the Arsene Wenger conundrum has once again reared its ugly head as the Frenchman’s position at the Emirates looks increasingly bleak.
Le Prof continues to cut a divisive figure in north London and whether the Gunners’ problems merely stop with them is unclear, though reports from Squawka have sparked even further debate. They claim members of Wenger’s backroom staff have warned the 67-year-old that uncertainty in regards to his future is also having a negative effect on the complexion of what could be his final campaign.
Mesut Ozil is thought to be at a loss as to whether he will extend his deal, one that expires in the summer, and ‘frank discussions’ between Wenger and his staff since their recent loss to Chelsea over their apparent view his uncertainty is an aspect in their dip in form are believed to have been held.
While there is reportedly a two-year deal on the table, recent reports suggest a decision will be made in regards to his future at the end of the season, even his close personal assistants are understood to remain in the dark over his plans come May.
