Wenger begins title surge as Arsenal wrap up stunning £30m midfielder deal

So, it finally happened. Delight has ensued amongst the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern, as you might expect.

After seeing their side remain almost entirely dormant in the transfer market over the past year or so, the Gunners have confirmed the arrival of Swiss international Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach.

The tough tackling central midfielder is widely expected to address a long running issue in the heart of the engine room in North London, that has so far lacked a combative and physically imposing presence.

Still, he boasts an exceptional passing range and looks to be an ideal deep-lying playmaker for the side as they bid to land an elusive fourth Premier League title under the stewardship of Arsene Wenger.

According to the official website, the 23-year old has arrived at the Emirates Stadium on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee.

How boring.

While the fee remain undisclosed, reports from Sky Sports over the past few weeks suggest it will be around the £30m mark, making him one of the most expensive transfers in the club’s history.

‘Granit Xhaka is an exciting young player, already with good Champions League and Bundesliga experience’, gleamed Arsene Wenger.

‘We have been watching him for a long time now and he is a player who will add quality to our squad.

‘We wish Granit a good Euro 2016 with Switzerland and look forward to welcoming him to Arsenal ahead of next season.’

How good a signing is Xhaka for Arsenal? Will he sort out their midfield?
