Though much of the onus this season has been either the excellence of Chelsea, the frailties of Liverpool or the circus in Manchester, the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are quietly smug.
The Gunners are rampantly chasing league leaders Chelsea at the top of the Premier League after a strong run of form and our north London locals are as delighted as you’d expect.
Still, a story in the Daily Mirror has come as unwelcome news to the Emirates faithful propping up the bar.
They’ve revealed key defender Shkodran Mutasfi WILL miss up to three weeks of action after limping off in the game against Stoke City with a hamstring problem.
Since joining in the summer, the World Cup winner has been one of their lynchpins this season, finally giving the influential Laurent Koscielny a top class defensive partner.
It’ll be a huge miss for Arsenal amid their title tilt as he’s likely to miss crunch games against Everton, Manchester City and West Bromwich Albion.
While Le Prof also has the likes of Gabriel and Rob Holding to call on in his squad, the punters aren’t quite as hopeful about their defensive nous.
“I don’t change my mind on what I said… 21 days”, said Wenger.
“We have Gabriel and we have Holding who can come in for him.
”And I’m confident they can come in for him and do well.
“That’s one of the tests, but we’ve had many tests this season.”
