Arsenal supporters in the Transfer Tavern are eagerly anticipating a potentially season-defining few days for their side, with the Gunners seeking to reach the last 16 of the Europa League this evening before facing Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.
Arsene Wenger’s men hold a 3-0 lead over Swedish minnows Ostersunds heading into tonight’s second leg at the Emirates Stadium, with the North London outfit massive favourites to get the job done and thus take a step closer to European glory. And Wenger’s side then bid to win the Carabao Cup for the first time ever under the Frenchman when they face Pep Guardiola’s City at Wembley on Sunday, with Arsenal going in search of their fourth domestic cup success in the last five years.
Consequently, there are many upbeat Gunners fans ahead of a crucial few days for their side, and they are likely to be interested by recent comments from Wenger (via The Daily Mail) regarding the future of forward Danny Welbeck.
The 27-year-old made the move to the Emirates Stadium back in 2014 and has since gone on to make 93 appearances for the North London giants, bagging 22 goals and laying on 13 assists in that time.
But the England international has had his spell at Arsenal decimated by injury, and with little over a year left on his current deal at the club, his future remains uncertain.
Yet manager Wenger has delivered a key update regarding his future, stating that he wants the forward to remain at the Emirates: ‘I want to keep him because he has gone through a torrid time and come out well.’
And these comments are sure to intrigue Gunners fans, who have seen Welbeck perform well when fit and firing for their club, and as such will certainly be hoping that he can get back to that level in the coming weeks and months.
Landlord’s verdict: It’s not been an easy time for Danny Welbeck since his move to Arsenal back in 2014, with injuries seriously hindering his progression at the Emirates Stadium.
Yet manager Arsene Wenger is sticking by the 27-year-old and hopes that he remains at the Emirates Stadium, what with his contract up in the summer of 2019.
Clearly, the England international is a hugely talented forward and an asset to the Arsenal squad, one our resident Gunners fans are hoping can rediscover his best form in the final few months of the campaign.
