Over the past few days, the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have seen major reports concerning the likes of Tony Adams and Thierry Henry.
As a result, they’ve been forgiven for waxing poetic about former glories in North London, in stark contrast to the situation with the Gunners today.
With Henry leaving the club and Adams reportedly on his way back, the latter may not be the only former captain of Arsene Wenger’s due a return to the club.
According to Spanish outlet Sport, the club are plotting a move for ex-skipper Thomas Vermaelen, who is due to leave Barcelona following their signing of Lucas Digne.
The Belgian left for the Blaugrana in 2014, though has struggled for form and fitness in equal measure at the Camp Nou and has been linked with a move to West Ham.
However, Wenger is thought to be considering a move for the 30-year old, who he initially signed from Ajax in 2009, in a bid to bolster his defensive ranks.
Would Vermaelen represent a good signing for Arsenal? Surely he’s past it these days? Let us know below….
