Gunners fans are always the but of the joke at this time of the year in the Football Transfer Tavern, with their failings in the transfer window seeming to frustrate fans ever more year upon year.
After Arsenal saw Mikel Arteta, Tomas Rosiky and Mathieu Flamini all leave at the end of last season you would be forgiven for thinking a few midfielders would be a priority for Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, this summer.
Well, if you were inclined to think that – along with almost all of our punters – I’m afraid you’d be wrong.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Le Prof has made it clear that there is no need to bolster their midfield any further this summer: “We lost three midfielders: Flamini, Rosicky and Arteta, and numbers-wise we are quite solid in midfield now.
“Elneny had a big impact when he came here, Coquelin was injured for a long time and is back. Cazorla will come back, Wilshere is back… so we are solid in midfield.”
The quotes have sparked some debate here in the bar, but one of our more senior punters awoke from his slumber in the corner and, through a mouthful of TT’s own dry roasted nuts, blurted out that he had seen this coming as Wenger is predictably boring during the summer window.
