The Gunners propping up the bar were at their lowest ebb when the likes of Emanuel Adebayor, Kolo Toure and Samir Nasri departed for the nouveau riche Etihad giants.

So, reports that the North London outfit could reap some revenge at long last has come as music to the ears of those very same punters.

While Jason Denayer isn’t a particular lynchpin with the Citizens, the Sun claim that Arsene Wenger is plotting a shock raid on the City slicker.

The Belgian international has struggled to impose himself in Manchester, being farmed out on loan to Celtic and Galatasaray.

With Pep Guardiola chasing £38m Juventus superstar Leonardo Bonucci, it is believed the 21-year old could be available for just £10-£12m.

Wenger is understood to want a versatile young defender, with Denayer able to operate either centrally or in full-back positions across the defence.
