Much to the delight of the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern, Arsene Wenger has seemingly sorted out their defence at long, long last.
The arrival of World Cup winner Shkodran Mustafi has given the Gunners some resolute defending for the first time in years, though reports from the Daily Mirror have given our north London locals something to think about.
They claim Le Prof could make a shock move for Manchester United and England captain Chris Smalling, over half a decade after initially trying to sign him from Fulham.
Though the 26-year-old has developed into one of the most formidable defenders in the Premier League, he was publicly criticised by Jose Mourinho after the recent win over Swansea City.
Since, Smalling has broken a toe and is unlikely to feature for the Red Devils in the near future.
With that in mind, Wenger would reportedly be one of the bidders should United allow the ex-Maidstone man to leave, despite buying Mustafi at huge expense over the summer.
Would Smalling improve Arsenal? Let us know below…
