Wenger reportedly keen on transfer move to strengthen Arsenal’s midfield

Our resident Arsenal supporters in the Transfer Tavern are intrigued by this latest transfer rumour. Indeed, after a busy January transfer window saw them land some big names, our resident Gunners are eager for more big movement on the arrival front.

According to Milliyet, cited by Daily Mirror, the Gunners have approached to sign Besiktas captain Oguzhan Ozyakup, much to the delight of the punters propping up our bar.

Coincidentally, the 25-year-old midfielder signed for Besiktas from Arsenal in 2012 for a nominal fee after initially struggling to make the grade. However, his contract with the Turkish giants expires at the end of this season, and the Gunners have allegedly approached the midfielder in an attempt to re-sign him.

In 207 games for Besiktas, Oguzhan Ozyakup has scored a decent total of 27 goals, while also amassing a commendable tally of 46 assists.

Certainly, Ozyakup is regarded for his attacking qualities, in particular, his dribbling and passing ability.

Landlord’s verdict

With Jack Wilshere’s contractual status still unclear, Oguzhan Ozyakup could be a useful and affordable replacement for the Englishman. The midfielder is clearly creative, and he could help alleviate the pressure that the likes of Ozil and Ramsey shoulder.
