Wenger set to splash the cash as Arsenal close in on landmark €40m deal

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern chomping at the bit to finally see their club active in the market have been given quite the news to sink their teeth into.

According to German publication Sport 1, the North London giants are closing in on a mega money deal to land Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka this summer.

A move for the 23-year old has been widely reported for a number of months now, with the Swiss international seemingly representing a good replacement for the likes of Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta.

The pair, along with teammate Tomas Rosicky, are all expected to leave the Emirates at the end of the season as their contracts begin to wind down.

Xhaka is the only player who doesn’t play for Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga that averages the most successful passes per match, excelling as a deep-lying playmaker.

Having three years to run on his contract in Germany, it is believed the fee will cost around €30-€40m, making him one of the Gunners’ most expensive signings.

Is another deep-lying playmaker really what Arsenal need right now?
