Barcelona are not favoured much amongst the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern, having not only beaten them in the Champions League final, but taken some of their best players.
While Thomas Vermaelen can hardly be considered amongst the likes of Thierry Henry and Cesc Fabregas, the Belgian skippered the Gunners and proved to be a formidable defender during his time there.
Since moving to the Blaugrana, the 30-year old has struggled for both form and fitness in equal measure and is reportedly allowed to leave the Catalan giants.
According to Spanish outlet Sport, the North London giants HAVE tabled a bid for their former captain as he gears up to leave the Camp Nou.
Defensive frailty has blighted Arsene Wenger’s side over the past few seasons and the injury to Per Mertesacker has reportedly prompted the 66-year old to scour the game to find reinforcements.
West Ham United are also understood to be keen on the former Ajax man, who has made a move back to the Premier League a priority.
Surely Vermaelen is past it now?! Let us know below…
