Wenger to miss out on two striking targets

Whilst it may be a merry Christmas for our punters here at the Football Transfer Tavern, one man who will be having a less than happy Yuletide is Arsene Wenger, with a double blow being dealt to the Arsenal manager according to Marca.

Wantaway Barcelona forward David Villa has been told that he cannot leave the club during the winter transfer window, meaning that Arsene Wenger’s admiration for the player will have to survive a little while longer from a distance.

Arsenal of course were linked with a loan bid for the player who is heavily in demand this festive period with Swansea City named as a bookies favourites just a few days ago to sign the Asturian on loan until the end of the season.

Whilst we at the tavern may be gorging ourselves on food and beer, our landlord points out that we should spare a thought for Wenger, who is under immense pressure and subject to yet another blow with the news that Dutch target Klaas-Jan Hunterlaar has penned a new deal with Schalke, despite being heavily linked with a move away from the Germans and to Arsenal no less.

Where and who will Wenger look to now in the transfer market? Vote in our polls below.
